3rd Electrical Technical Officer

JOB DESCRIPTION

A 3rd Electro-Technical Officer on a cruise ship is crucial for maintaining and repairing electrical and electronic systems to ensure smooth and safe operations. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, safety knowledge, problem-solving skills, and effective communication. The ability to perform preventive maintenance, adapt to technical challenges, and stay updated with industry advancements is essential for success in this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible that the automation system, power generation and electricity management, propulsion system in general and security systems are in order and in function at all times, under the supervision of SETO
  • Ensure that all aspects of the company's occupational health and safety programs are applied during working activities
  • Ensure all aspects of the company's global (HESS-MS) Health, Environment, Safety, and Security Management System are effectively applied during his/her working activities
  • Performing operations of medium/low voltage and all switchboards onboard the ship, including the emergency switchboard
  • Update the stock levels of the electrical storeroom and strategic spare parts when requested by superiors, communicate with Storekeeper, and assist in periodical inventories if required.
REQUIREMENTS
  • GRADE 12
  •  South African passport
  • Minimum 12 months of shipboard experience on a cruise ship as an Electrotechnical officer

Assistant Joiner & Carpenter

JOB DESCRIPTION

Assistant Joiner & Carpenter is responsible for maintaining the vessel's guests and crew areas, as well as carrying out refurbishment, repairs, and daily work as instructed by the team leader.

Assistant Joiner & Carpenter responds to Guest work orders and repair requests. Responds to Crew work orders and repair requests. Ensures that all aspects of the company's environmental policy and procedure applicable to his job tasks are correctly carried out, including, but not limited to, the proper labelling of all hazardous material containers, including those which may be temporarily used, the proper storage and containment of hazardous chemicals including paints, the proper precautionary procedures specified by the company when painting onboard or "over the side," the proper application of the company's personnel protection program. 

RESPONSIBILITIES
  •  Carrying out refurbishment, repairs, and new installation in Guest and Crew areas as instructed by the Team Leader.
  • Assist the freshwater bunkering operations. The Asst Joiner designated by the Team Leader/Facilities Maintenance Manager is responsible for this task.
  • Ensuring that all aspects of the company's environmental policies and safety procedures are applicable to his/her job tasks.
  • Performs routine inspections of all Guest and Crew areas under his specific responsibility (i.e., carpet, upholstery, etc.)
  • Perform Backstage services.

Entertainment Rigging Specialist

JOB DESCRIPTION

An Entertainment Rigging Specialist on a cruise ship is responsible for the safe installation, operation, and maintenance of all rigging systems used in live entertainment productions onboard. These systems include lighting rigs, sound systems, stage equipment, and other technical installations used in performances, shows, and special events. This role combines technical expertise with a keen understanding of live entertainment logistics to ensure smooth, safe, and high-quality performances in various venues on the ship, including theatres, lounges, and outdoor stages.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Install, set up, and test all rigging systems used in entertainment venues, including stage lighting, sound systems, audiovisual equipment, and special effects.
  • Securely rig and hang lighting and sound equipment, including heavy machinery such as speakers, lights, and large props, using cables, hoists, pulleys, and trusses. 
  • Conduct regular safety checks on rigging equipment and stage systems, including load testing and visual inspections, to prevent accidents. 
  • Support live shows and performances by operating and monitoring rigging systems, ensuring that all equipment functions smoothly during events. 
  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on rigging systems and entertainment equipment to ensure everything is in optimal working condition. 
  • Work closely with the cruise ship’s entertainment, technical, and production teams to plan and execute rigging setups for events and shows. 
  • Keep track of rigging equipment and ensure that it is properly maintained, stored, and accounted for. 
  • Assist with the quick and efficient setup and breakdown of equipment for various events, performances, and special functions across multiple venues on the ship.

Youth Staff

JOB DESCRIPTION

Organizes and leads youth activities, for ages 6 months -17 years, in designated activity centres, assigned areas and throughout the vessel by performing the essential duties and responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Participates in embarkation procedures by disseminating information regarding the Adventure Ocean Program, Youth Evacuation Plan, and directing and escorting guests to staterooms.
  • Determines the activities to initiate based on the ages and the needs of the children assigned to participate in the scheduled activity. Organized and leads a variety of established age-appropriate activities. 
  • Acts as a role model for the youth with regard to leadership, friendliness, diplomacy, honesty, fair play, sportsmanship and open-mindedness. Exercises discretion and good judgment when interacting with the children. Maintains a constant awareness of the children’s whereabouts and their safety. Intervenes when a conflict arises or when a child needs extra attention or assistance in order to enjoy the activities. Responds to any type of emergency 
  • Maintains discipline within assigned group to ensure safety precautions are followed.
  • Communicates with parents in a tactful and courteous manner to generate a high level of comfort. Acts as liaison between the Youth Activities Manager and the parents
REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, recreation or related field from an accredited university or college or the international equivalent
  • South African passport
  • Three to five years' experience working with large groups of youths ages 6 months -17 years
