JOB DESCRIPTION

A Varnisher on a cruise line is responsible for the maintenance and finishing of wooden surfaces, furniture, and other woodwork aboard the ship. This role involves applying protective coatings, such as varnish, lacquer, and other finishing products, to ensure the wood surfaces remain aesthetically pleasing and well-maintained. The Varnisher works closely with other maintenance crew members and departments to uphold the overall appearance and integrity of the ship's interior and exterior wooden elements.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • This position shall work with supervisors and subordinates to understand and comply with the company's environmental policies and be committed to safeguarding the environment.
  • Direct and immediately inform the immediate supervisor if any environmental system does not function properly onboard.
  • Be familiar with Safety including responsibilities in the Safety Organization according to the Emergency Plan and the Station Bill. 
  • Responsible for the varnishing of various items in the crew and guest areas including but not exclusive to railings, wall panels, wood floors and furniture or as instructed by the Hotel Accommodations Maintenance Manager and/or Staff Captain.
  • Keep track of varnishing supplies, including paints, solvents, brushes, and tools, and order replacements as needed.
  • Act promptly when there is a problem or a guest complaint that requires his action during the day.
  • Be able to work alternative shift schedules. In some instances, it may also be necessary to take action on off-duty hours, should he be required to do so.
REQUIREMENTS
  • GRADE 12
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
